The Marlin Club of San Diego Monthly Newsletter

From the Bilge
By Wayne Slahor, Club President
Marlin Club weighs in its first fish caught by a non-member, Troy Fitsgerald, aboard the Mil-So-Mar, captained by Rich Hamilton.  The fish weighed 129 lbs and was taken on a lure at the 302 spot. This happens to be the date that your current president picked to be the first fish of the year. However, because he’s not a member this doesn’t count. This means that the first fish flag and first release flag are still up for grabs.  The fish are out there – being seen in several different spots. Let’s go get-em!  Good Luck!

The Club Potluck was a huge success!  Approx. 60 people attended.  There was lots of good food - no one went away hungry. A good time was had by all.  Our guest speaker, Chuck Faith and Rob Shannon gave a short presentation of the “For Pete’s Sake” Marlin Tournament in Cabo San Lucas.  This tournament helps raise funds for cancer research and medical support for children in Cabo.  As a grand finale, the crazy shirt contest was held and won by Walter Gutjahr, who had on quite a revealing shirt. Walter said he has owned this shirt for many years.

NOTE:  No parking (trailers/vehicles) in the lot during the following dates/events:  Sept. 6 & 7 and Sept. 27th.  We will need all available space for these events. Thank you.

Words of Wisdom
Submitted by Marty Morris

“People who fish for food, and sport be dammed, are called pot –fisherman.
The more expert ones are called crack –pot fishermen.
All other fishermen are called crackpot fishermen.
This is confusing.”
