From the Helm A couple of weeks ago, Wayne Slayhor reminded me that in the past, this column has been called “From the Bilge”. He suggested that I use that byline. I don’t know if he was referring to my literary skills or what. If you missed the Sundowner Potluck last month, you really missed an outstanding presentation. Bob Hoose from Berkley /Sevenstran, was our speaker. He was tops. He gave us secrets that a full house had paid $129.00 each to hear the week before. He told us secrets from the Pro’s and how they searched for marlin during the season. Also he demonstrated ways to rig jigs and how to run the jig spread behind the boat. He really kept our attention. If you want to know the secret information, talk to someone who was present, they might share some of his secrets. We plan to have the next Sundowner Potluck August 13, 2006 at 4:30PM at the Marlin Club. Stay tuned for details on the program. The Spring Shootout was May 20th. The fish count was probably the lowest that the tournament ever had. We hope that next year the count will be up. Don’t forget the Halibut Tournament coming up June 10th. Chris Lahr has assured me that all persons entered will catch at least a 10lb halibut. (That’s what he said) I say as of today, May 26, 2006, the water between the mainland and Catalina was 69 degrees. Rumors should start soon of fish being seen. Woody Brickly told me to mention that he saw two tailers last week, however he had been to a party the night before and didn’t quite remember where he had seen them. (Somewhere between Hooters and the San Diego River?) With that said, see you at the Halibut Tournament, June 10th. Charles
